Page 1 of 3 The research activities concern 3 different domains: a1Research activities in the domain of numismatics and related data organization. Definition of the domain ontology. For this task the partners will avail of a well-tested procedure set up at PIN. It uses a simple form for the definition of relevant entities like the followingENTITY-TAG CONCEPT CRM-ENTITY NUM_00 Numismatics Entity– tag Identification of tag base-concept CRM-entity corresponding FIELD PROPOSED BY Indication of the public body that proposed the field NOTES Explanation of the meaning and the using of field RELATION WITH NOTES Name of the property to be used with the entity Related entity Explanation of the relation DATE OF PROPOSAL dd/mm/aaaa MODIFICATION DATE dd/mm/aaaa. The form has been designed to facilitate documentation and collaborative work. They will be compiled (in English) and circulated for comments among museum partners until approved. Proposal and approval of entities will take into account the current state of numismatic research and best practices in the field. The resulting model will be edited/verified using IKEM and/or Protegé in order to assess its functionality and correctness. Definition of the thesaurus. The creation of the (onto)-thesaurus will use the IKEM suite for extracting the relevant terms and providing a preliminary set. These will be checked by the museum experts and assessed. Translation will be provided into Italian and Romanian. Since not only terms, but also quasistructured expressions are in use in the numismatics domain (like, for instance “Bust facing crowned and diademed; in right hand, a sceptre surmounted by a quatrefoil of annulets; in field right, a star and a quatrefoil of annulets†describing a medieval English silver penny – very similar to heraldry description), provisions for analyzing/converting such sentences will be included as well. It is possible that a simple parser is required for this. Data management system. Here the analysis needs to only to define the desired functions. As already stated, this is a by-product of COINS, included in the project to guarantee sustainability and take-over by the numismatic community of the proposed standard (needing a specific DMS). The base system is made available by PIN and avails of standard tools as XSLT, XPath, XQuery etc. Mapping. Using AMA, mappings for existing systems will be generated. This task should be carried on in a straightforward way by the museums, under the guidance of PIN. Reference collections. A task to be developed totally by museums, using data they already have (in which case only interfaces will be needed) or creating them from scratch, with some limited digitization activity – useful also to test how to optimally set digitization parameters for the recognition tools. |
